21/10/06 (Photographed before being re-shod)

Four months after being grooved the new hoof above the disruption ridge is growing normally, the horse is pain free and very mobile although still confined to a stable with very limited periods of turnout. The lower hoof wall has been left intact (not back rasped) to allow effective weight bearing through the hoof wall, this has not prevented the new hoof from re-growing normally.

A radiograph taken a few days earlier shows the new hoof above the disruption ridge is growing in the normal position. The grooves in the hoof can be seen in the area between the distal phalanx (pedal bone) and the marker on the dorsal hoof wall. The upper part of the white marker has been placed at the disruption ridge.
